About Clear Lake

Clear Lake, the county seat of Deuel County, is located in northeastern South Dakota, in the approximate center of the county, an area of over 630 square miles. The city is located at the intersection of State Highways 22 and 15 (Historical Highway 77) and was named after the crystal clear lake nearby. The elevation of Clear Lake is 1800 feet above sea level. The town of Clear Lake was platted on September 23, 1884, and the plat thereof was dated October 1, 1884. Clear Lake was declared to be an incorporated Town by the county commissioners on July 6, 1885 and in 1901 was incorporated as a City. Clear Lake is governed by a Mayor and six aldermen/alderwomen.
